The Spanish Lab idea
The Hola Kidz The Spanish Lab curriculum was created and developed by Letisia Mejias, language educator and founder of Hola Kidz The Spanish Lab. It grows from her experience as an educator and from her vision of offering children a meaningful learning experience in Spanish.
The model is based on the idea that children learn best when they can explore, experiment, create, move, listen, observe, and communicate within real and meaningful contexts. In the Spanish Lab, Spanish is not taught only as a subject, but as a tool for discovering the world.
Our philosophy
“Spanish is the language we use to explore the world.”
Every experience begins with a question, an observation, a song, a story, an object, a natural phenomenon, or a situation from everyday life. Children observe, ask, explore, experiment, create, and share while they develop their communication skills in Spanish. This approach turns every classroom into a small laboratory of discovery.
Language connected to everything
The curriculum integrates language development with:
- Environment and science
- Music
- Art and creativity
- Math
- Movement
- Social-emotional development
- Literature and stories
- Nature and everyday life experiences
The four great seasons
The year is organized into four great laboratories. Each one is divided into integrated learning units, where different curriculum areas connect around a single theme.
Fall Lab
We explore the changes in nature.
Winter Lab
We discover the cold, water, and the changes in our surroundings.
Spring Lab
We discover how life grows and changes.
Summer Lab
We explore the sun, water, movement, and our world.
The creator's hallmark
The curriculum reflects Letisia Mejias's vision of an early education where learning is:
- Culturally meaningful
- Rich in language
- Musical and creative
- Based on exploration
- Connected with nature
- Centered on the child
- Based on community and collaboration
We learn Spanish. We explore the world. We create together.
